Clickbait is online content that uses sensationalized headlines to tempt a person into clicking the blurb to view the original web article at the source publication. Clickbait tends to spread quickly through social media and sharing sites, such as Facebook and Twitter.
Clickbait may also be written as click bait.
Clicks Are Revenue
Each click through and view of the source article typically generates advertisement-based revenue for the publication source. The more clicks an article receives, the more revenue earned. For this reason, clickbait is designed to attract a large number of readers and rarely uses quality guidelines and researched sources. Some clickbait articles will use a large number of images or video clips spread over multiple pages to further increase the number of clicks by the user.
Clickbait Headlines and Content
The headline of a clickbait article is the most important element. Clickbait headlines are often written to manipulate feelings or grab attention. For example, the headline may raise emotions of anger ("You'll be outraged at what happened to this little girl"). Other types of clickbait are cleverly designed to make people curious ("This man found a sealed envelope. You won't believe what was inside!").
Often, the clickbait headline and content is of a sensational, provocative or controversial nature. These types of headlines, along with eye-catching images and social media sharing and commenting are all common elements of clickbait.
Xenial Xerus is the Ubuntu codename for version 16.04 of the Ubuntu Linux-based operating system. Officially released on April 21st, 2016, Xenial Xerus follows the Wily Werewolf (v15.10) release and serves as a significant update for Ubuntu, featuring improved integration with OpenStack (including Mitaka support), the addition of the “snaps” secure app format for packages, and the LXD pure-container hypervisor.
As a long-term support (LTS) release, Xenial Xerus users will receive five years of support from Canonical, the developers of Ubuntu, for the operating system (as opposed to nine months of security updates and support for the non-LTS releases). New Ubuntu LTS releases debut every two years, with the last Ubuntu LTS being the Ubuntu 14.04 Trusty Tahr distribution in April 2014.
For developers, the Xenial Xerus 16.04 release includes the Snapcraft tool, which simplifies building, developing and distributing snap packages. Ubuntu 16.04 also retires the Ubuntu Software Center, discontinues sending your desktop searches over the Internet by default, moves Unity’s dock to the bottom of the computer screen and more.
Xenial Xerus also offers support for the zettabyte file system (ZFS) as well as updated Firefox and LibreOffice releases.
What Exactly Is a Xenial Xerus?
Xenial is an adjective that refers to a state of being hospital or friendly, particularly to visiting strangers or foreigners, and a xerus is a long-tailed ground squirrel native to Africa. Xerus resemble prairie dogs in many respects, and they band together while living in burrows in woodlands or grasslands.
The Xenial Xerus release of Ubuntu Linux is expected to be succeeded by Ubuntu 16.10 in October 2016.
Storage Spaces Direct is a feature introduced in Windows Server 2016 that extends the software-defined storage (SDS) stack in Windows Server to enable building highly-available (HA) storage systems with local storage.
Microsoft developed Storage Spaces Direct, or S2D, to help simplify the deployment and management of software-defined storage systems as well as to open the use of new classes of disk devices like SATA and NVMe (Non-Volatile Memory Express disks) disk devices, which were previously not able to be used with clustered Storage Spaces with shared disks.
Storage Spaces Direct in Use
Storage Spaces Direct can use disks internal to nodes in a cluster or it can directly attach to nodes in a cluster via an enclosure. Storage Spaces aggregates the disks local to the cluster nodes, which creates a Storage Pool of these disks and enables virtual disks to be created.
These virtual disks can be used as a Cluster Shared Volume (CSV) that can house Hyper-V virtual machines (VMs) running on ReFS-formatted volumes.

That's the opening sentence of Jeffrey Layton's discussion about the future of hard drives in Enterprise Storage Forum, and clearly it's an understatement. Layton takes a deep dive into the challenges facing traditional spinning disks, HDD, namely deep encroachment by SSD, as well as Intel/Micron’s 3D XPoint NVRAM (Non-Volatile RAM).
Will SSD Prices Fall Enough to Wipe the Hard Drive Market?
On the SSD front, one of the factors I find most interesting about the rise of flash is the ever-changing forecast about its falling price. SSD offers better performance than hard drives and are also more expensive – but this greater expense is a key factors in favor of HDD. However, it seems as time goes by, the distant date when SSD prices fall enough to fully wipe out the hard drive market seems to move closer and closer.
As Layton observes:
Just a few years ago, the average $/GB for an SSD was about $1/GB, even for consumer drives. Now some of them are below $0.25/GB. Given that the sequential performance of an SSD is about 5-10 times that of a hard drive and the random IOPS performance is 3-5 orders of magnitude greater than a hard drive, SSDs are becoming extremely popular as a storage medium.
Eventually, it appears, there won’t be a cost justification for HDD, at which point they will head to the trash bin of data storage history. Or, alternately, the relative cheapness of hard drives will continue to win them a place in data storage, for lower priority storage tiers. Possibly they'll take up a role in longer term storage, the niche that tape still shines in.
Yet in the longest term scenario, the future for hard drives doesn't look bright.

Before you stop shopping for hard drives altogether, however, consider the factors that suggest hard drives have a good long life ahead of them.
In a contrarian article posted on Enterprise Storage Forum entitled Hard Drives Are Here To Stay (For Now), storage analyst Greg Schulz noted that HDD are seeing significant performance improvements. For instance, Seagate's shingled magnetic recording (SMR), which boosts disk density to achieve an impressive 25% more capacity.
Moreover, both Seagate and Western Digital are investing in heat assisted magnetic recording (HAMR) technology. Remarkably, Seagate CTO Mark Re told Enterprise Storage Forum that, in contrast to a current HDD technology that offers 1 terabit per inch of max density, HAMR will offer 4 terabit per inch density. Think about storing 60TB of data on a 3.5 inch disk. And this isn’t just a dev pipedream – storage products that incorporate HAMR should be available in 2018, Re told ESF.

"These amendments will have significant consequences for Americans' privacy and the scope of the government's powers to conduct remote surveillance and searches of electronic devices," Democratic Senator Ron Wyden of Oregon said in a statement Thursday.If Congress doesn't act, the changes to the Rule 41 will take immediate effect in December despite opposition from technology giants and civil liberties groups who believes the changes would expand the FBI's power to conduct mass hacks on computer networks.
"Under the proposed rules, the government would now be able to obtain a single warrant to access and search thousands or millions of computers at once; and the vast majority of the affected computers would belong to the victims, not the perpetrators, of cybercrime."
The tech giants and civil liberties groups like the American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU) say the change also could run afoul of the American Constitution's protections against inappropriate searches and seizures.
However, while proposing the rule change in 2014, the U.S. Department of Justice described it as a small modification required to modernize the criminal code for the digital age, saying the changes wouldn't permit searches that aren't already legal.
The FBI Now Can Legally Hack TOR Users
Previously, under the Rule 41, magistrate judges could not approve search warrants to remotely hack or access computers outside their jurisdiction.
But with the rule change, magistrate judges could now issue orders to search or seize computers and electronic devices outside their local authority if the target's location is unknown or if the target is using anonymity software like TOR.
More than a Million of Internet users make use of TOR anonymity software to browse the Web just to hide their actual identity for entirely legitimate reasons, in addition to criminals who use TOR to hide their locations.
Recently, the court threw out evidence that the FBI brought by hacking the members of the child pornography site PlayPen on the TOR network using its so-called Network Investigative Technique (NIT), explaining the feds violated Rule 41's territorial restrictions.
This rule change would prevent something like that from happening, opening doors for the FBI to legally hack any computer in any country.
The Congress has time until 1 December 2016 to reject changes or make more changes to Rule 41, after which the amended version of the rule will take effect.
